Range of Vision Correction procedures in Philadelphia, on the basis of your eye health and other medical conditions we suggest which Lasik procedure is good for you.

Traditional Lasik

We use the state of the art NIDEK EC 5000 excimer laser system with its patented laser beam technology. This scanning slit technology re-contours the cornea to a new curvature to correct vision with precision and accuracy.

Custom Lasik

This procedure uses WaveLight system employs advanced technology to generate a “map” of each unique eye, enabling your surgeon to perform a more personalized and more effective procedure. The procedure is similar to traditional LASIK, with one notable addition: custom LASIK™ makes use of the wavefront analyzer.

Wavefront Lasik

Laser vision correction procedures differ in a number of ways, but conventional treatments use the same formula to treat every person with the same optical prescription. The Allegretto Wave, however, was conceived from the start to perform custom treatments and incorporates wavefront technology principles into each procedure while adjusting each treatment to the patient’s individual cornea.

PRK Procedure

PRK is safe, effective and offers long lasting results. There may be a brief delay of clear vision but most are able to resume their activities by post-operative day 5. Some patients may not be ideal candidates for LASIK but for PRK if they have high prescriptions or a thin cornea.

Dr. Columbus is the most professional doctor I ever met by far!! He personally did my consultation unlike other lasik consults I had with other places. I now love my new vision thanks to his tremendous expertise & talented skills. He literally has given me the gift of clear sight.. I had very poor eyesight and now I enjoy all the things that glasses and contacts restricted me from. I literally have a happier new life. I highly recommended him to all my family and friends for their procedures as well. Definitely an intelligent doctor who knows what he is doing! He answered all my questions and had on call service for questions after hours. Thanks a million to Dr. Columbus!!! Thank you for being the best doctor that has ever taken care of me!

Questions about Lasik most frequently asked by Lasik Patients in Philadelphia

How fast will my vision recover?

Following LASIK, most can see within 5 hours! Most patients will perceive tremendous improvement by the next morning. The day after LASIK, most are 20/40 passing their driver’s test drive and returning to work and daily activities. The best vision 20/20 is within 1-2 months. Visual recovery is slower after PRK, and functional vision is achieved after 3 to 5 days, after which point the recovery continues on a daily basis over the following weeks. The best vision 20/20 is 2-4 months.

Can I have both eyes treated the same day?

Because intraoperative complications are less than 1-2%, most patients have both eyes treated the same day. The majority of our patients have both eyes treated the same day for added convenience, quicker visual recovery, and less time away from work. However, the preference of our patients will guide us in the treatment plan.

Is the procedure painless?

The LASIK procedure is painless using numbing eyedrops for surgery. After LASIK, one may experience mild irritation for 3 to 5 hours relieved with eye closure during that time. After 3 to 5 hours the eyes feel normal and visual recovery is rapid at that time with most patients resuming their activities.
