Dr. Columbus had his spark in interest in pursuing ophthalmology as a career in his medical school training when he graduated in 1996. There he watched patient care and management of eye disorders as well learning glaucoma, retina. and cataract Surgery. He was then accepted to Nassau County Medical School / Stonybrook University in Long Island New York. There he stayed for three years as a resident learning and performing cataract, glaucoma, retina, RK, AK, ALK, PRK, and LASIK surgeries. Upon his graduation, he accepted a job position working with his mentor surgeon who trained him in residency vision correction procedures. At his job he not only performed RK & AK, but also ALK. As technology evolved he then learned how to do clear refractive intraocular lens exchange as well the advent of PRK and LASIK at that time in 1996. Dr. Columbus than was an internship fellowship at the prestigious Cornell Medical Center in Manhattan New York. Here he learned and taught laser vision correction and doing the pre & post-operative care on patients. He also learned the skills of cornea transplant to miraculously transform one’s vision from cornea disorders. He also participated in the FDA study with the sunrise LTK study doing pre & post-operative exams and collecting data and results to give to the FDA.
With the establishment of his practices in Wilkes-Barre, Harrisburg, Philadelphia PA centers, he provided ALL this training and learning on the latest technologies at that time. Early in his career, he performed LTK he learned in his schooling to correct farsighted patients from the Harrisburg, Wilkes-Barre, Philadelphia areas. He Also provided the technologies initially on the laser market starting with Traditional LASIK in 1996 when it became available to thousands of his Philadelphia, Wilkes-Barre, Harrisburg PA patients. Most of his patients from these areas thank Dr. Columbus for his dedicated commitment to quality care as well as surgery. Over the years Dr. Columbus has treated complications he learned from his training where MOST of his patients still had excellent outcomes and success despite have a minor set back with a complication.

About Dr. Columbus

Dr. Bill, as he is affectionately known, is the founder and surgical director at Columbus LASIK Vision. He received his Bachelor’s Degree at Scranton University and his medical degree at Penn State University Medical Center where he also performed his internal medicine internship. He then spent three years at Nassau County Medical Center training in Ophthalmology. Shortly after finishing at Nassau county, he began his cornea and refractive fellowship at the prestigious Cornell Medical Center in Manhattan.
