There are several reasons why some patients get glare or halo as a side effect after LASIK. Many well known facts are three. The following are the causes most glare problems with the change in curvature of the cornea centrally, the peripheral upslope of the laser treatment, and lastly the inherited abberration glare points we naturally in our cornea. In regard to the change in curvature of the cornea, if the treatments are not smooth it will cause glare. A smoother treatment translates to less glare problems after LASIK. Also the peripheral upslope of the laser treatment ablation, called the transition zone, can also cause post-operative glare at night. Finally there are glare points in the cornea called spherical, coma, trefoil that act up with the new reshaping of the cornea with the laser treatment which will induce glare at night.
Dr Columbus provides the Ltest Technology as it evolves over the many years to provide the BEST lasers to ALL his Philadelphia, Harrisburg, Wilkes-Barre PA patients to reduce risks such as glare as a side effect. He is ALWAYS investing into the LATEST & NEWEST technologies to get BEST vision outcomes with LEAST complications. In regard to glare as a side effect he would see it mostly on the older lasers in his training called broad beam lasers. With Broadbeam lasers, the contour changes were not smooth creating glare or halo as a side effect. With the evolution of technology Dr Columbus when he opened up his practices in Philadelphia, Wilkes-Barre, Harrisburg PA he acquired the latest technology at that time called scanning slit lasers. With scanning slit the laser contour changes are VERY SMOOTH unlike older broadbeam lasers resulting in LESS glare for most of his Philadelphia, Harrisburg, Wilkes Barre PA patients as a side effect.
Over time Dr. Columbus invested in newer technology to reduce the glare percentage with the development of Custom laser treatments. He started providing custom treatments since 2007 to thousands of his Wilkes-Barre, Harrisburg, Philadelphia PA patients. With Custom i resolves any potential glare points from acting up with the laser treatment to our Harrisburg, Wilkes-Barre, Philadelphia PA patients LASIK eye procedure. How it does this is that a topography picture of the eye to find the glare points or abberations we call it such as coma, trefoil and spherical. This picture information is then put into the computer in addition to your prescription to fix your vision. With the picture data, the laser can hit these glare points and polish them so they are less likely to flare up versus traditional LASIk which does not take the glare points into consideration versus the laser treatment.
Dr Columbus now offers the LATEST BREAKTHROUGH technology called Wavefront LASIK laser treatments. Dr Columbus has been performing this new technology since 2013 providing the BEST laser on the market to reduce glare as a side effect for many of his Harrisburg, Philadelphia, Wilkes-Barre PA patients. The wavefront uses the latest technology called flying spot wavefront laser systems. The wavefont uses the latest laser beam called flying spot and is the BEST laser type he used in his career to reduce the risk of glare for his Philadelphia, Wilkes-Barre, Harrisburg PA patients! Unlike the traditional and custom treatments which do not treat the peripheral upslope transition zone of the laser treatment ablation, the flying spot actually addresses the upslope by flattening it by putting more treatment in the periphery to reduce the peripheral upslope. This flattening in the peripheral upslope with flying spot DRAMATICALLY REDUCES GLARE based on Dr. Columbus’s experience in using all difeerent types of technologies for his Wilkes-Barre, Philadelphia, Harrisburg PA patients. Alot of his patients find their vision as “High Definition Vision” and people describe their vision ato be BETTER QUALITY than their prior night time vision with glasses or contact lenses!
